Introduction & planning tips Grootfontein is the last town on the long roads that head to Rundu and Tsumkwe, so it is necessary to stop, refuel and make sure that the vehicle is in order. If the traveller is heading from Namutoni in Etosha to Rundu or Tsumkwe, it may be worth spending a night in Grootfontein with a few activities such as a trip to the Hoba Meteorite and / or Otjikoto Lake and Lake Guinas to give purpose to the stop. The town’s main activity is servicing the surrounding farming community, however there is a museum in town and a massive Baobab tree, which is a national monument, approximately 80 km from the town.
