In addition, a nightly bed levy is paid by Lianshulu Lodge guests that is divided between individual households and community projects alike. Development & support of traditional village The Lizauli Community, 13 km to the north of Lianshulu Lodge, have established a community tourism initiative that has recreated all the unique traditions and culture of the Namibian village. Lianshulu Lodge was instrumental in this project, providing both start-up capital for construction as well as training & guidance in the management of a tourism venture. Proceeds are divided amongst the community. Marketing of community made thatch for building This region is one of the few in Namibia which has grass that can be used in thatching for roofs. Lianshulu Lodge has assisted the communities in the sale of this renewable resource to other safari lodges. Employment of game guards Another conservancy initiative backed by Lianshulu Lodge is the employment of Community Game Guards by the Integrated Rural Development and Nature Conservation (IRDNC) NGO. Guards are responsible for guiding the wildlife back within the unfenced borders of the park, protecting cultivated land from elephants at night, and the provision of other basic services. In return the IRDNC pays conservancy fees and the guards' salaries.
