Grootberg Lodge is a landmark for eco-tourism development, as it is the first establishment in Namibia 100% owned by the conservancy.

The purpose of Grootberg Lodge is to:

1. Benefit the local community by:
* Increasing direct job opportunities in a poorly developed area;
* Supporting marginal people with projects such as

• building schools and clinics,
  
• creating a community kitchen for the elderly and vulnerable groups and
  
• awarding bursaries to promising pupils 

2. Ensure sustainability of the conservancy by:
* Reducing animal/human conflict by creating a tourism value for problem species such as lion, cheetah and elephant
* Rehabilitating of the conservancy area and
* Ultimately increasing biodiversity

Presently a private sector company provides management and training at the lodge. The aim is for the lodge to be completely run by the community within the next ten years.

The success of Grootberg Lodge is not only critical to the development of the local community, but also the conservation of a true wilderness area.
