Onguma participates in the rhino relocation programme.
Social Responsibility
The Namutoni Hai//om Trust was established in 2008 with the express purpose of developing and benefiting the Hai//om people of the Oshivelo-Namutoni area, who are directly affected by tourism development in this remote outpost. The main objectives of the Trust are to:
- be the appropriate legal recipient and accounting body for income and grants
-
empower the Hai//om community to individually own land from which a sustainable income can be generated
- provide sustainable jobs based on Tourism and Agriculture
-
assist in providing welfare, healthcare and humanitarian care and counseling to the community;
-
assist in the provision of training and support to emerging micro-enterprises within the community;
-
assist with education relating to Family planning/housing/early childhood development/adult education etc.
-
provide some source of sustainable income to the Trust via monthly levies generated by the tourism industry.
The trust further aims to empower the community by establishing a
Conservancy over the Onguma Game Reserve, which will hopefully include
a portion of the planned owned land of the Hai//om. It will also be used
to facilitate training and ongoing support in that regard.
From 1 November 2009 a levy of N$ 10 per person per night will
be applicable and is payable by each guest upon departure.
Travel details
* Onguma Tree Top Camp can be reached in a small 2 X 4 sedan.
* During the rainy season (September to April) check road conditions in advance of departure.
Andersson Gate - Etosha
Andersson Gate to Onguma Tree Top is approx. 184 km
* Follow the C38 from Andersson Gate via Okaukuejo and Namutoni to Von Lindequist Gate (approx. 172 km)
* Approx. 200 meters after the Von Lindequist Gate turn left at the Onguma entrance gate
* Follow the Onguma road to Onguma Tree Top (approx. 12 km)
Note: This is the shortest route through Etosha National Park, and does not take into account detours within the park.
The entire route is on gravel road.
Tsumeb
Tsumeb to Onguma Tree Top is approx. 113 km
* From Tsumeb drive north on the B1 to the C38 turn off (approx. 74 km)
* Turn left into the C38 and follow it to the Onguma entrance gate (approx. 27 km)
* Follow the Onguma road to Onguma Tree Top (approx. 12 km)
Besides the short Onguma own road the entire trip is tar road.

The position allows animals to come to the waterhole in security, with probable sightings of kudu, eland, oryx, hartebeest, zebra and impala. Lions and the rhino may be sighted on the private reserve. Just around the corner, Etosha is one of Africa's greatest wildlife parks.

Onguma Tree Top Camp is small and very exclusive. Guests stay in tented chalets amongst the trees, facing the waterhole. Canvas 'walls' allow guests to decide if they want to watch life at the waterhole or lower the sides for privacy. The chalets are connected to the central lounge, viewing deck and open plan kitchen.
Although there are other tree top lodges, few can give the sense of youthful adventure of Onguma Tree Top Lodge.
