Islands in Africa works with the local community, through a conservancy committee, to prioritise projects which need funding. A ZAR 40 donation to the community development fund is requested from each guest on departure.
The community development fund has assisted with:
- school and clinic improvements
- providing a shop for supplies
- a postal and transport service
- a kindergarten
- sports sponsorship
- special group functions organisation
The initiative has created income from tourism which has led to a greater appreciation of animal populations, which now include hippo families and a crocodile population.
The cultural village initiative has led to preservation of the traditional culture, farming and fishing techniques, and botanical knowledge for future generations.

Katima Mulilo
Katima Mulilo to Kasane in Botswana is approx. 122 km
* From Katima Mulilo follow the B8 to Ngoma border crossing (approx. 66 km)
* Once you have completed the Namibian and Botswana border crossing formalities drive on the tar road to Kasane (approx. 56 Km)
The entire route is on tar road
Mudumu National Park
Mudumu National Park to Kasane in Botswana is approx. 237 km
* Follow the C49 north to Kongola (approx. 25 km)
* Turn right into the B8 and follow it to Katima Mulilo (approx. 90 km)
* From Katima Mulilo follow the B8 to Ngoma border crossing (approx. 66 km)
* Once you have completed the Namibian and Botswana border crossing formalities drive on the tar road to Kasane (approx. 56 Km)
The only gravel road is the C49 from Mudumu to Kasane. All other roads are tar roads
Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

39 – 30 days prior to arrival: 50% of the total price

Group reservations (6 or more guests)
* Bookings will only be confirmed upon payment of a 30% deposit. The 30% deposit is based on the full invoiced price.
* The balance of the quoted price is payable at least 8 weeks prior to arrival.
* Should the number of rooms on a confirmed booking be reduced
- Every effort will be made by Islands in Africa to resell those rooms
- Should the rooms not be sold – cancellation policy to those rooms will apply

75 – 61 days prior to arrival:the 30% deposit is forfeited
60 -30 days prior to arrival: 50% of total price
30 days or less days prior to arrival: 100% of total price

Should the entire lodge be booked exclusively, children are welcome.
