URGENT UPDATE: CHANGES TO ENTRANCE
In order to protect the priceless rock engravings at Twyfelfontein Country Lodge, Namibia Country Lodges has:
- Closed the current turn circle and drop-off area for vehicles and restricted vehicle traffic to the parking lot.
- Rehabilitated the turn-circle area and constructed a pedestrian walkway from the parking lot to reception.
- Shifted
pedestrian arrivals through a new entrance to the left of the arch that
houses the current entrance and the engravings, to arrive at reception
with a slight detour.
- Posted a permanent guide at the
engravings to inform people about the significance of the site and to
point out valuable heritage issues.
- Restricted pedestrian
access to only allow those with an interest in the value of the site to
enter this specific area, and requiring other traffic to make use of
the two deviations to reception and to the rooms.
Please ask guides to familiarize themselves with the facts of this site to allow them to encourage a visit in the course of the stay.
Please also brief clients not to unpack their luggage on arrival
and carry their suitcases to reception from the parking lot, but rather
to leave the luggage in the vehicle, check in and then drive around to
the rooms to unload and then park in the designated area.
A person will be placed in the parking lot to direct guests on
arrival with immediate effect. Proper sign posting will also be put up
to show the way should no guide be available to assist. |

The rock shelters of Twyfelfontein were once the site of an ancient settlement. Between hunts, its inhabitants left records of how they lived, in thousands of pieces of rock art. They also left images of the desert elephants which roam along the river, till today.
Twyfelfontein Country Lodge, a short distance from the rock art and the river where the elephants roam, offers travellers a glimpse into this world, with day trips and shorter excursions. Adventures of a different kind can be had in the freedom of a mountain bike or short guided hikes. And at the end of the day, the lodge gives travellers a friendly 'welcome back' and a place to call home for a night or two.
