In order to protect and rehabilitate this area the Huab Safari Ranches, an amalgamation of farmlands, was set up and the Huab Conservation Project was established to promote the rehabilitation of the mismanaged land on many levels by: - enforcing anti-erosion measures - cleaning up rubbish - removing fences and allowing free passage for the wildlife - removal of domestic stock - encouraging wildlife to return by improving natural grazing conditions - making drinking water available in open, saucer-like troughs - enforcing a no-shooting policy - re-introducing animals which used to occur naturally Huab Lodge was then established to generate funds to save the desert elephants from being harassed and shot. Thanks to the generous donations by guests to Huab Lodge, the Huab Safari Ranches is returning to a wilderness area, with game numbers increasing and species diversity increasing with re-introduction projects. Eco Awards Namibia Huab Lodge & BushSPA has received 3 Eco Award flowers by Eco Awards Namibia. Eco Awards Namibia is a mark of distinction for accommodation establishments that are planned and managed according to eco-friendly principles. The programme promotes the selective and careful use of resources, promoting 'reducing, recycling and reusing'. Social Responsibility * Huab Lodge & BushSPA gives local communities the opportunity to find work close to home. * Small scale industry is being developed by sourcing homegrown vegetables and curios from the local community. * The lodge runs a small shop for the community's basic necessities, and a modern card-phone to improve communication. * A small handicraft project is developing, with ladies hand painting and sewing useful items for sale in the lodge's curio shop. * During the dry season, Huab Lodge & BushSPA can be reached in a small 2 X 4 sedan. * As Huab Lodge & Bush SPA lies in mountainous area of the country, flooding of roads in the area during rainy season is possible. The onset of the flow is very rapid. * As a large part of the journey takes place on gravel roads, consultants should switch to a 4x4 vehicle during the rainy season (October to April). * Kamanjab * Khorixas * Twyfelfontein, Burnt Mountain * Etosha National Park (Andersson Gate) * Outjo * Otjiwarongo * Palmwag Concession * Sesfontein * Opuwo Kamanjab Kamanjab to Huab Lodge & BushSPA is approx. 89 km * From Kamanjab drive south on the C35 to the D2670 turn off (approx. 54 km) * Turn right into the D2670 and drive to Huab Lodge (approx. 35 km) The entire route is on gravel road Khorixas Khorixas to Huab Lodge & BushSPA is approx. 81 km * From Khorixas drive north on the C35 to the D2670 turn off (approx. 46 km) * Turn left into the D2670 and drive to Huab Lodge (approx. 35 km) The entire route is on gravel road Twyfelfontein Twyfelfontein to Huab Lodge & BushSPA is approx. 178 km * From Twyfelfontein drive north on the D3214 to the D2612 turn off (approx. 10 km) * Turn left into the D2612 and drive to the C39 turn off (approx. 15 km) * Turn right into the C39 and drive to Khorixas (approx. 72 km) * From Khorixas drive north on the C35 to the D2670 turn off (approx. 46 km) * Turn left into the D2670 and drive to Huab Lodge (approx. 35 km) The entire route is on gravel road Etosha National Park (Andersson Gate) Etosha National Park (Andersson Gate) to Huab Lodge is approx. 251 km * From Anderrson Gate head south on the C38 to the C40 turn off (approx. 87 km) * Turn right into the C40 and drive to the D3236 turn off (approx. 41 km) * Turn left into the D3236 and drive to the C35 turn off (approx. 73 km) * Turn right into the C35 and drive to the D2670 turn off (approx. 15 km) * Turn right into the D2670 and drive to Huab Lodge (approx. 35 km) The C38 & C40 are tar roads.
