The stone main complex leads to a large wooden platform overhanging the Kunene River. * Dining area with individual tables on the platform * Small dining area next to the bar (for use during rains) * Bar * Curio Shop * Swimming pool River based activities * White-water rafting
* Self guided canoe trips. Canoes can be rented at the lodge. * Fishing tackle can be hired from the lodge. Birding * Early morning birding trips on the Kunene River. Duration 2 to 4 hours * Guided trips to seek the elusive Cinderella Waxbill Cultural * Guided visit to a Himba Village. Duration 1 to 2 hours. As this is not a tourist facility, visits to the village can not be guaranteed, but are up to the discretion of the community. Note: It is recommended that self drive clients make use of the lodge's Himba visit activity, rather than try to visit a village on their own. Not all villages welcome tourists and even if they do, the language barrier makes it very difficult to communicate and can lead to misunderstandings and an upleasant experience for both the client and the Himbas. The funds raised are intended for the local population, with one of the long term aims being to encourage the re-introduction of wildlife to the area, in turn bringing in sustainable tourism. In 2008 a relatively large group of animals was transferred from Etosha National Park and successfully released about 30kms from Kunene River Lodge. In total 100 Mountain Zebra, 27 Giraffe and 44 Kudu's were released and now roam the area freely. Kunene River Lodge together with the Namibian Educational Trust also supports the Ehomba School Project. * Kunene River Falls Lodge can be reached in a 2X4 sedan. * During rainy season check access road with the lodge and if required change to 4x4 vehicle. * A 4X4 vehicle is highly recommended when driving further into Kaokoland, and the vehicle must be in good condition, stocked with water and should preferably have two spare tyres. * Opuwo * Epupa Falls * Etosha National Park (King Nehale & Von Lindequist Gate) * Oshakati * Kamanjab Opuwo Opuwo to Kunene River Lodge is approx. 187 km * From Opuwo drive east on the C41 to the C35 turn off (approx. 56 km) * Turn left onto the C35 and drive to the C46 turn off (approx. 85 km) * Turn left onto the C46 and drive to the Kunene River Lodge sign (approx. 46 km) The last 24 km on the C46 is gravel road. The rest of the route is tar road. Opuwo scenic route Opuwo scenic route to Kunene River Lodge is approx. 139 km * From Opuwo drive north on the C43 to Epembe (approx. 75 km) * From Epembe take the D3701 and drive to Swartbooisdrift (approx. 60 km) * At Swartbooisdrift turn right and drive to the Kunene River Lodge sign (approx. 4 km) The entire route is gravel road. A 4X4 is recommended for this trip Epupa Falls via Opuwo Epupa Falls via Opuwo to Kunene River Lodge is approx. 384 km * From Epupa drive south on the C43 to Opuwo (approx. 197 km) * From Opuwo drive east on the C41 to the C35 turn off (approx. 56 km) * Turn left into the C35 and drive to the C46 turn off (approx. 85 km) * Turn left into the C46 and drive to the Kunene River Lodge sign (approx. 46 km) The C41, C35 and the first 22 km of the C46 are tar road. The rest of the route is gravel road. A 4X4 is recommended for the road from Opuwo to Epupa. Epupa Falls scenic route Epupa Falls scenic route to Kunene River Lodge is approx. 151 km * From Epupa drive south on the C43 to Epembe (approx. 87 km) * From Epembe take the D3701 and drive to Swartbooisdrift (approx. 60 km) * At Swartbooisdrift turn right and drive to the Kunene River Lodge sign (approx. 4 km) The entire route is gravel road. A 4X4 is recommended for this trip Etosha National Park (Von Lindequist Gate) Etosha (Von Lindequist Gate) to Kunene River Lodge is approx. 434 km * From Von Lindequest Gate take the C38 to the B1 turn off (approx. 25 km) * Turn left into the B1 and follow it via Ondangwa to Oshakati (approx. 209 km) * From Oshakati drive west on the C46 to the Kunene River Lodge sign (approx. 200 km) The last 24 km on the C46 is gravel road. The rest of the route is tar road. Beware of cattle, goats, donkeys, chicken and especially children on roads through far northern Namibia. Etosha National Park (King Nehale Gate) Etosha (King Nehale Gate) to Kunene River Lodge is approx. 355 km * From the King Nehale Gate drive on the D3646 to the B1 turn off (approx. 15 km) * Turn left into the B1 and follow it via Ondangwa to Oshakati (approx. 140 km) * From Oshakati drive west on the C46 to the Kunene River Lodge sign (approx. 200 km) The B1 and the first 22 km of the C46 are tar road. The rest of the route is gravel road. Beware of cattle, goats, donkeys, chicken and especially children on roads through far northern Namibia. Note: Clients need to arrive at King Nehale Gate at least 3 hours before sunset, as the closest rest camp is Namutoni, which is a minimum 2 hours drive from King Nehale Gate. Kamanjab Kamanjab to Kunene River Lodge is approx. 318 km * From Kamanjab drive north on the C35 to the C46 turn off (approx. 272 km) * Turn left into the C46 and drive to the Kunene River Lodge sign (approx. 46 km) The last 24 km on the C46 is gravel road. The rest of the route is tar road.
