On the long road between the northern Cape and Keetmanshoop, surrounded by the endless plains of southern Namibia, Grünau is a welcome stop, a good place to refuel and an excellent choice to restock the coolbox.

The name Grünau is not without its irony, as this small village in the middle of the blistering, hot desert is named after a cool, wooded area in Central Europe.

The weather at Grünau is extremely hot, and the high temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion. Temperatures in the vicinity have been known to rise above 40 C. Carry a bottle of water, and drink from it.
